Teenagers Accessing Porn. Addictive and Damaging?

BBC Radio One Newsbeat today at 12:30 to initiate massive debate on internet use of teenagers. Apparently around half of 15 to 17 year olds have seen porn on a smartphone or tablet, according to survey conducted by charity Young Minds. Also, a third of 11 to 14 year olds had watched porn on a moby.

Today is titled ‘World Safer Internet Day’ and the survey was only 2,000 people aged 11 to 25. Young Minds suggest that their findings show porn is having a “damaging effect on young people.

” Easier access to porn where “anyone can do it, anywhere, any time.”

Is there a correlation between watching porn and brain damage? Pop-ups and the urge to look at more extreme images drive this modern development.

We do agree that pornography should be discussed in the classroom but will the education system allow this more open approach? The suggestion is that this subject should be aired in primary schools. We reckon many parents would be unhappy with this more liberal approach and that it would not be implemented.

Radio Five Live will be featuring this debate today.
